Join us on this, our 10th year, in celebrating the giant headed-host with the most, MODOK!  In one week, we will be at it again, posting your submitted art pieces featuring the mental organism we all know and love throughout the month of March.  Email us your work (modokmarch at gmail dot com) and remember, we do thirty-one (days) and then we're done (for the year.)

ANNOUNCING MARCH MODOK MADNESS 2014!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

March is upon you. MODOK calls to you.

Brendan and I are getting things together for this (our fantastical SEVENTH!!!) year of MODOK appreciation and tribute.

We hope you'll all get involved and help us make this March full of maniacal mindblasts!

Just follow these easy steps:

1. Make some art with MODOK on your mind.  Paint, sculpt, draw, knit, collage, photograph, or whatever strikes your artistic fancy.
2. Put that artwork (72dpi should be just fine) into an email. 
3. Be sure to sign your artwork. Tell us what medium you used. Include your name, website, description of your MODOK image, etc. 
4. Send that email you've just made over to us at modokmarch at gmail dot com.
5. We'll post it up just as soon as we are able.
6. Be the envy of your friends when you show them that YOU have awesome artwork posted on MARCH MODOK MADNESS!
7. Repeat process as desired until end of day, March 31st 2014 EST. 

That's it! Send those submissions along and we'll post them up on the site.  Tell your friends, spread the word!  The more MODOK, the merrier! 

We've got 31 days to fill and it should all be more entertaining than college basketball!

Announcing MARCH MODOK MADNESS 2013!

Hey all,

It's that time of year again.  Join us for the whole month of March as we celebrate the life and times of the bestest villain of all time: MODOK!  That's right, every day in March we bring you sweet, sweet depictions of the mighty mental one for your enjoyment.  What will this year bring?  Keep coming back to find out.

Better yet, would you like to participate in the madness?  Create a MODOK and email it to us at modokmarch at gmail dot com to be included.  Submit as many as would like, but after the 31st, we're done for the year.  So get cracking now!

This our sixth year running and your hosts, Pedro Delgado and Brendan Tobin, look forward to making this year the best one yet.  The ride starts on Friday, March 1st!

March MODOK Madness 2012 A'Comin'!

ATTENTION ALL ASSOCIATES OF AIM!!!

One week from today we will launch our FIFTH year of MARCH MODOK MADNESS!  The best time of year, we think (right behind Arbor Day)!  What's it all about?  Hosted by your fellow banal, bucket-headed beekeepeers Pedro Delgado and Brendan Tobin, March is the magnificent, maniacal month in which we celebrate the mighty, mental mastermind, MODOK, by inviting all you magnetic masses of meticulous mastery to submit your work!  If it's MODOK, we'll run it! 

If you wish to submit artwork, please email your work to MODOKMARCH at gmail dot com.  Please have your files in jpg, gif, or png format at 72 dpi.  Make sure you include how you would like to be credited, a title, any links to your work, and any descriptive prose you'd like posted.  Pedro and Brendan will post it up for you like little blog-elves.  Feel free to submit as much or little as you want, but be warned, we hit day 31 and we done!  Though we don't like to censor, remember this is a public blog and an all-ages show and your grandma is a big fan.  You probably don't want to make her cross!

Beyond that have fun, submit, celebrate, and spread the word of MODOK MADNESS this March!  If you don't, MODOK starts dealing out the MINDBLASTS and none of us want that!

Threw this together at the last minute so I could include a goodbye. Thank you one and all for making March MODOK Madness a success for yet another year. Thanks to co-blogger Pedro Delgado for your posting efforts and staying on top of submissions, Kasra Ghanbari for his continued contribution from his collection, and Mighty Fine for joining in the fun. I hope our shilling brought some people your way to buy some great MODOK merch. Hope to see you all next year, keep drawing those MODOKs! Hey MODOK FANS!..

Tis the FINAL DAY of our Month long tribute to that Mental Organism we know and love, I'd like to thank my good friend and Fellow Beekeeper, Brendan Tobin for being great ally and asset in this endeavor...I'd also like to thank Kasra Ghanbari for access to his seemingly limitless stash of sweet Modok fan art...
Finally, (and with the greatest reverence) I need to thank everyone who submitted, work and comments to this site. Thanks to all those who've visited, and the word of mouth we've had an ABSOLUTELY AWESOME 2010 season MARCH MODOK MADNESS...
I thank everyone for the support, and am looking forward to one great day of MODOK!....with an optimistic notion we'll see MODOK again in March 2011.

Just thought I'd do a late February post to announce that indeed we are continuing the annual madness of celebrating all things MODOK! And why not? The big guy deserves it. So, all during the merry month of March, your bustling, belligerent, blog beekeepers (Pedro and myself) are hosting hordes of gorgeous, graphic depictions of everyone's main mental organism! Be sure to join us next maniacal Monday for the bombastic beginning of our third time around!

Interested in joining in the fun? Well, dust off your devious drawing devices, create some work and submit it to the email address found in the column to the right, and we'll put your potent and powerfully produced pictures on up the blog! Everyone is welcome!

Hey, all. Mere minutes before March MODOK Madness comes to a close for another year. I whipped this sketchy puppy out just under the wire. Whew.

I want to thank everyone who has supported this blog this month. Thank you to all the artists who contributed their wonderful MODOK renderings. Thank you to all the collectors who shared their collected pieces featuring MODOK. I'm glad that you see the genius in Kirby's character and commission works that include him. Thank you to all the websites and blogs out there who linked to us. You guys sent major traffic our way and helped get people involved in the madness. Thanks to all the people who came by and checked out the many different MODOKs. Last but certainly not least, a lot of thanks to Pedro Delgado, partner in crime and co-administrator on this blog, for not only your inspiring pieces, but your tireless effort in maintaining and promoting March MODOK Madness. [Cue "get-the-hell-off-the-stage" music here.]

Yes, it is a sad affair to see the end of March for 2009 and a whole year of MODOKlessness. But if you love Jack Kirby that much, how about contributing to the April Reign of Arnim Zola? Why not? See you next year. Just like summer camp. Love.

QUASIMODO-DOK!

Some Literary scholars now believe that Victor Hugo's masterpiece The Hunchback of Notre Dame was based loosely on one of Modok's earlier ancestors.
He lived above the Cathedral and didn't bother too many people. In fact he was really sweet on this gypsy girl too, but he wasn't much to look at. So, when an angry mob of French peasants ousted him, from his domicile for his terrifying appearance. He fled to seek out a life of revenge...this led to killin', and mindblasts down the road. Thus continued the long time honored Modok heritage.

That being said, this'll be my last MODOK for o9'.
I wanted to thank everyone involved for making it a most excellent year indeed.
In fact this year:
-We Increased site traffic almost exponentially.
-The word got out on the web, and Modok was noticed by all kinds of neighboring websites.
-There was a steady influx of new members to the blog, along with submitted works from all kinds of talented artists, and fellow Modok fans.
-We Netted almost 130 plus posts for the whole of march and the last day isn't even over yet!
Great WORK everyone!!

So, again I thank you all. With Special thanks to my Co-captain BrendanTOBIN for his crackerjack effort and time spent keeping up with updating submissions while making awesome Modok images. Also, I'd like to thank Kasra Ghanbari for peppering our mailbox with wonderful Modok drawings from his vast personal stash.

I've got plenty of unfinished drawings here on my desk, that I hope you'll come back and check out during next year. Other then that I encourage you to take some time to browse the site, lots of great work, tons of great artists, and one BAD ASS MENTAL ORGANISM.

A Well Earned Rest...

The month of MARCH MODOK MADNESS IS OFFICIALLY ENDED!
So, while our illustrious founder heads out to the beach for a little well deserved R&R, with his umbrella drink, and a monte cristo cigar in hand. I wanted to take a few minutes to thank you all for making this a lot of fun.
I'd also like to thank my fellow administrator Brendan for introducing me to MODOK, and for getting so actively involved in making this a wonderful month of fun fan art.

That being said. Please, Comb through this blog.....
In one month we have netted just shy of 100 individual pieces of art. AMAZING!
We've netted traffic from other sites that link to us. AWESOME!
We've got art from new people and made new contact with other MODOK fans. ASTOUNDING!
Furthermore, it was fun and challenging for all. SWEET!
Brendan and I are hoping to see some of you again next year when the madness is rekindled in O9'.
However, Brendan and I are tentatively scheduling to have MODOK return again this year. For another month of art, comics, animation, and whatever you wanna do to celebrate our favorite "mental organism".
As the rough plans stand now.....
THE MONTH WILL BE OCTOBER............
and the mission will be.... MODOKTOBERFEST!
But, thats some time from now, no need to worry about it yet.. So, have a great spring and summer season. Do some drawings, hit the beaches, enjoy cold beers on warm late afternoons, and all the other good stuff.

If This Be-- MODOK! Sort of...

Hey all! Thought I'd put a word in here as well. First, props to Pedro for the banner you all see in the header of this blog. Sweet work, pal. I hear there's even people requesting t-shirts of it. That's high praise, man. Who knew MODOK would be the new fashion fad?

We welcome you to March MODOK Madness, a blog dedicated to the big evil head during the month of March. Pedro and I cooked up this little gem because we wanted to crank out some good illos featuring the titular mental organism, for whom we both share a mutual admiration. Let's face it, he's pretty damn cool.

We would also like to ask those of you who would like to join us in our endeavor to do so. Just drop us a line by clicking the gmail button to your right. We did lay down some ground rules, which you can read in the initial post. However, don't let them put you off if you want to join in. We just want to see your MODOKs in all their different variations and glorious styles. If you're just a casual fan or would like to passively enjoy MODOK, we invite you to keep coming back to read new posts. Viewers welcome. But this is all old hat that's been covered in previous posts.

I did want to write a piece about MODOK, but I don't think I can put it any better than this guy. Check out There's Something About MODOK in its entirety, but to paraphrase, he summed MODOK up best:

In the end, MODOK-love is a little like a crush, a little like a child, a lot like a cult: you either get it, or you don't. Get it. Feel it. Live it. The man, the mental organism: the MODOK.

I wanna talk about M.O.D.O.K,
M ental
O rganism
D esigned

He is an awesome marvel villain spawned out of the fertile pen/pencil of Jack Kirby. So great was MODOK's first appearance in Tales of Suspense #94, that Brendan Tobin and myself are rallying to make March the month of the MINDBLAST.

Here are some of the guidelines for this adventure:

1. We're thinking a minimum of 5 posts per participant (March has 5 Sundays this year), that's at least 1 or so a week, by each Sunday. No limit to a maximum, as long as it is within March 1-31.
2. Each post, under the title/tag of "March MODOK Madness" project title, should feature MODOK (and we mean it), in some form or another as the focus, but can feature other characters/elements. Sky is the limit in interpretation of MODOK, if it be realistic, cartoony, comicbooky, designy, whatever.
3. You can write as much or as little about your posted pic as seen fit. If you have a good MODOK inspired HAIKU handy that would be stellar.
4. Commenting on posts is encouraged and appreciated as long as comments consist of positive and constructive criticism. Throwing out support for one another's recent MODOK endeavors would be welcomed. Links in posts that bring attention to individuals' personal, creative blogs is also welcomed.
5. Have fun, and remember MODOK is what he is: A massive, malevolent, mindblasting menace of malice and mirth. Your drawings can be finished or sketches, but the key ingredient should be love in this equation.
