DURO-DOK: The BROWN PAPER ORGANISM.

I draw on brown paper bags a lot.  Usually the sandwich baggie is a readily affordable and available canvas for me.  Plus the texture and tone of the paper is rather pleasing.  This MODOK is one on a page of about 7 or 8 other drawings, and I'm gonna see about posting up all the good ones with some photoshop modifications before the month is out.

Simple materials + drawings of an awesome character = FUN!

GO-MODOK!

I figure this year I'll post up a MODOK, inspired by Bandai's GoDaiKin series of the 80's.
I love the first sentence for the Godaikin history entry, according to Wikipedia:

"Mattel had previously tried to market Popy figures as Shogun Warriors in the late 1970s, before the line was cancelled, partially due to safety concerns. In 1982 Bandai decided to try themselves, and came up with the Godaikin range. The name is a combination of the Japanese words for "alloy" (gokin) and "big" (dai), and is presented as "GoDaiKin" on the packaging (however, within collectors' sources, the title case version is more commonly used)."

While many of the GoDaiKin robots were pretty darn awesome, the most memorable figure I ever came across is GOLION. Seeing that box it in all its glory.. on that toy shelf, ..DANG!

Anyways, for the love of all that is DIE-CAST METAL, and all that is MODOK. He deserves the best toy treatment.

Krakit sent us this killer photo he took and he writes,

I saw it at the Dragon Con in Atlanta right before the costume parade.  I asked the person wearing it if they would let me take a photo and they were kind enough to pose for me.

Which proves that MODOK fans are always down for a good photo opportunity.  Also it shows this beloved Mental organism to be extremely photogenic.

With the recent announcement that Ben Affleck will be playing Batman in the next Batman movie, this week’s theme will be really odd superhero movie casting. Suggest an odd actor or celebrity for a role in a superhero film as either a superhero or a supervillain. Cher as Batman, Zach Galifianakis as the Joker, that sort of thing. 

Twitter follower, anaustincampion suggested: @pattonoswalt as MODOK per the suggestion of @ThisAmerLife. Love them both so it was a simple decision.

Beware the REd DEAD MODOK!

Illustrator Tom Kelly graced our inbox with this submission and he writes,

This Modok illustration is a fun cartoon take on the "KING of SUPER SMART EVIL BADDIES". I call it the REd DEAD  Modok.  I made this illustration using Adobe illustrator CS6 mostly using a lot of layers and the pen tool  it's an all vector illustration. You can see this guy, a lot of other versions of Modok and other cool art on my web site.

While drawing this, my three dogs were all frenzied; obviously falling under Modok’s mental influences!

We know what you mean man.  The stray cats in my neighborhood were extra noisy last night. I suppose it was due to the coming of MODOK!

Genevieve sent us this awesome MODOK last year just after march had ended.  She writes,

I wanted to submit this rough sketch of MODOK teaming up with Dr. Doofenshmirtz from Phineas & Ferb.

The funny thing is, I really wanted to draw two of my favorite maddened evil masterminds, MODOK and Dr. Doof and I thought they would totally be doing a song and dance number as they captured their nemeses, Hulk and Perry the Platypus. After I sketched this out, on a whim I wanted to see if anyone else had done this crossover, and to my surprise, I found that Phineas and Ferb are actually doing a Marvel crossover this Summer... and with MODOK!! It was a crazy coincidence that got me all excited and giddy inside! Anyway, this is super rough, and I plan to clean it up and finalize it but I didn't want to miss the deadline!

Really digging the HULK stuffed in the cage with Perry there.  Also look forward to seeing a finalized version this year.
